SL15 Round 2 Recap
Two rounds into SL15 and the contenders are already starting to emerge.
The Drouin Dragons, Warragul Wolves and Longwarry Knights remain unbeaten at 2-0, while several Round 1 winners were brought back to earth in a round packed with competitive games. Tyabb bounced back after a heavy opening-round defeat, Grantville found their first win of the season, and the Dragons continued to build an early claim as the team to beat.
At the other end of the ladder, Ferntree Gully Giants, Clyde Kittens and Lakeside Phoenix are still searching for their first victories, but there were encouraging signs from all three sides despite the losses.

Grantville Griffins 35 def Ferntree Gully Giants 23
It wasn't pretty, but Grantville won't care.
In the lowest-scoring game of the round, the Griffins controlled proceedings from the opening stages and never surrendered the lead. Defence was the story, with Grantville forcing 15 Giant turnovers while holding Ferntree Gully to just 23 points.
Mark Surtees led the offence with 13 points and three triples, providing the game's most reliable scoring threat. Ryan Barker added 10 points, while Rhys Kop delivered one of the most complete performances of the round with 5 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks.
Ferntree Gully battled hard on the glass, winning the rebound count 41-36, but simply couldn't buy a basket. Qazim Selimi finished with 6 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals, while Michael Carless added 6 points and 9 rebounds.
For Grantville, it was a much-needed first win. For the Giants, the search for offensive rhythm continues.

Longwarry Knights 44 def Dandenong Ducks 42
The Knights moved to 2-0 after surviving one of the games of the round.
Longwarry and Dandenong traded blows throughout a contest that featured quality shot-making from both sides. When the game tightened late, Jake Sutherland once again delivered.
Sutherland finished with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists, leading all players and producing arguably the most influential performance of Round 2. Jake Connor provided excellent support with 14 points and 5 rebounds, while Michael Snyders controlled the glass with 10 boards.
The Ducks were outstanding despite the loss. Corey Nagel poured in 17 points, 5 assists and 3 steals, while Jayden O'Neill and Kynan Auhl each added 8 points.
The margin was only two points, but it was enough to keep Longwarry unbeaten and firmly in the early premiership conversation.

Tyabb Tigers 42 def Bayside Reapers 38
Round 1's biggest losers became Round 2's biggest improvers.
After conceding 73 points in their opening game, the Tigers produced a disciplined performance to upset the Reapers and level their record at 1-1.
Tyabb's balanced offence proved the difference. Hayden Melsen starred with 13 points, 12 rebounds, 2 steals and a block, Ryan Downie-Lane added 12 points, while Joey Nativo controlled the game with 10 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.
Bayside received another strong outing from Dale Taylor, who finished with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists to rank third in round scoring. Michael Kats dominated the glass with 14 rebounds, while Troy Tillotson grabbed 11 boards of his own.
The Reapers actually won the rebounding battle 39-29, but Tyabb looked more composed offensively and protected the ball better, doing enough to secure one of the round's most important wins.

Warragul Wolves 51 def Pakenham Upper Unicorns 42
The Wolves made it two wins from two starts with an impressive victory over the high-scoring Unicorns.
Daniel Hoy delivered the individual scoring performance of the round, finishing with 21 points and four made three-pointers. Every time Pakenham threatened, Hoy seemed to have an answer.
He was supported by Jake Hollingsworth, who recorded 11 points and 4 assists, while Daniel Jeavons contributed 10 points on efficient shooting.
The Wolves also received a huge all-around effort from Bradley Starkey. His stat line of 4 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and a block highlighted just how much impact a player can have without dominating the scoring.
For Pakenham Upper, Kyle Nagel led the way with 15 points and 4 assists, while Aaron Olczyk added 8 points and 8 rebounds.
The Wolves now sit undefeated and are beginning to look like one of the deepest and most balanced teams in the competition.

Nar Nar Goon Bulldogs 35 def Clyde Kittens 30
The Bulldogs opened their account for the season with a gritty five-point victory over Clyde.
This game was built on defence and hustle. Nar Nar Goon generated constant pressure, finishing with a round-best 15 steals and forcing the Kittens into difficult offensive possessions throughout the afternoon.
Elton Bland led the scoring with 14 points and 5 rebounds, while Brayden Kotsch added 8 points and 3 steals. Sam Pettit was everywhere defensively, recording 5 steals to lead the round.
For Clyde, Peter Kennedy carried the offence with 17 points and two three-pointers, accounting for more than half of his team's total score. Logan Mills added 11 rebounds and a block, while Corey Brumby collected 11 boards of his own.
The Bulldogs may not have lit up the scoreboard, but they showed the defensive intensity required to secure their first win of the campaign.

The Dragons strengthened their position atop the ladder with the most convincing win of the round.
Drouin's size, rebounding and defence overwhelmed Lakeside, holding the Phoenix to just 25 points while improving to 2-0.
Blake Allen led the scoring with 12 points and 9 rebounds, while Michael Morgan posted a dominant double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds. Trent Wreford was immense with 6 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks.
One of the more remarkable stat lines belonged to Reece Ainsworth. He scored no points, yet still managed to finish with 4 steals and a round-best +23 plus-minus.
For Lakeside, Daniel Bell led the way with 10 points, while Mike Godfrey contributed 8 points and 5 rebounds.
Through two rounds, Drouin own the league's best defensive record, having conceded just 56 points across their opening two games.
